Mechanical/ automatic movement with a power reserve of 48 hours
In 1860 Louis-Ulysse Chopard (L.U.C.) established a watchmaker company specialising in pocket watches and great precision chronometers in Sonvilier, in the Swiss Jura. In 1920 the company moved to Geneva and also started making wristwatches.
In 1976 the first “Happy Diamonds” came to the market: above the dial, little diamonds slide and twirl freely between two transparent sapphire glass plates. In 1980 the “Happy Diamonds” concept was further developed and Chopard also started to put jewellery with this theme on the market. Chopard also launched its first sports watch with leather strap, the “St. Moritz”.
Chopard opened its first boutique in Hong Kong in 1983, which was followed three years later by the first European boutique in Geneva. In the meantime, there are over 100 boutiques all over the world.
Collaboration between Chopard and the world famous rally Mille Miglia began in 1988, for which Chopard created the Mille Miglia watch.
In 2000 Chopard presented the 1.98 calibre “L.U.C. Quattro”. This new four-barrel wristwatch has 216 hours or 9 days power reserve. In 2003 Chopard introduced its first “Tourbillon” watch that is entirely made in-house. The manufacture in Fleurier was marked for its 10-year anniversary in 2006 when Chopard presented the “L.U.C Chrono One”.
Chopard celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010.
